Call virtualmachine.ShutdownGuest for object "SLACK-14" on ESXi "" failed

0
0

I need to install one vm with Slack 14, install vmware tools with standard procedures, functions vmsync, timesync and others.

But when I try to make a guest vm shutdown of slack, the following message appears:

Call virtualmachine.ShutdownGuest for object "SLACK-14" on ESXi "192.168.0.1" failed

The request to Reset this virtual machine failed because the corresponding VMware Tools script did not run successfully.

If you have configured a custom reset script in this virtual machine, make sure that it contains no errors.

Attempting the operation again will ignore the script failure. You can also submit a support request to report this issue.

But if you try again, the shutdown is performed

Could anyone help

Show de bola.

Baixei a ferramenta e estou conhecendo ela.

Hi to all, maybe a stupid question, but I've to update a exsi 5.1 Update 1 on an HP server but non a customized image with 5.1 update 2. I see that HP have a custom 5.1 up 2 image. can I upgrade or is better i use a non customized one? anyone tried this? the difference is HP custom has agents for raid control while standard one has not...

thank you!

Yes I just opened "MyProject-Disk3-000001.vmdk" in a hex editor (read only) as you suggested, and it was very easy to see which spindle and folder that the parent vmdk was located. I'll save this to  my "book of things to remember".

Thanks André !

Re: How long for HA to 'know' a failed host has been removed from the cluster?

No that is not what I meant. After host 201 is dead and HA has failed over the VMs, the running hosts will start reporting that they can no longer see 201. So I MOVE the REGISTRATION of the disconnected host 201 from the cluster into an empty cluster and now the cluster only has hosts that are running without issues.

However, they keep reporting there is a host they can't see and they will be unable to failover the VMs from that host. But the host has been removed. So how long will it take before they know the host is gone?

I now fixed it by disabling HA and then re-enable HA.

It works only if you have 32 bit color all the way through. No idea why it fails to work at 16 bit or 24 bit.

To clarify, had to edit Windows at the RDP server side to permit 32 bit. This is only possible in server 2008 with the terminal services role enabled. Not sure if it's possible in Vista/7/8.

Could be both, IOPs is always an issue with my storage but also this runs on the same cluster as vCOPS which can be very heavy CPU-wise.

Check the fdm log on FDM master host and the problem host. You will be able to find the reason.

Re: Forgotten vCenter (vcsa) 5.5 root password

Ok, so I'm wondering what should I do in this step:

Enter the GRUB password.

Note:

    • If the vCSA was deployed without editing the root password in the Virtual Appliance Management Interface (VAMI), the default GRUB password is vmware.
    • If the vCSA root password was reset using the VAMI, then the GRUB password is the password last set in the VAMI for the root account.

    I tried with: vmware and it did not work and also tried with the password that the customer think it's the right one and it did not work.

    Thank you in advanced.

    I removed the mirror drive (bad drive) and powered on the vmware workstation. It ran and got stuck at windows logo screen. It never goes pass it. I powered it down and ran a disk-check on drive E and it got stuck at stage 4 of 5. It has been running for over 15 hours now. What else can I do? Please advice.

    Log Insight - Admin needs "manage alerts" capabilities

    0
    0
    1. Admin user logins to LogInsight
    2. There is an error icon:
    3. The errors (on click) show up in popup window

    manage_alerts.png

    Problem 1: When this popup window is closed – there is no way to find these errors in UI. Not so important or urgent, but would be nice to have.

    Problem 2: As admin I should be able to find bad alert definition (even if created by other user) and correct it. So, the error “1 new event found for alert: ePass Exceptions". Reason: Illegal semicolon, not in group” tells me there is a problem, but I cannot find this alert definition in admin’s “Manage Alerts”… the reference to SMTP Configuration page is irrelevant here, these mis-configurations are in some user alert definitions... Admin should have ability to edit any user's alerts.

    thank you,

    I had the same problem. I switched the NIC to VMXNET3 and the problem seems to have gone away.

    I logged into the "Test Management Network" and it gave the OK message when I pinged the systems. However it said failed to resolve hostname: ESXI1

    Re: Certain USB Devices no longer recognized when plugged in after upgrade to Fusion 7

    Fusion 7 supports a virtual USB camera, which can be added as a new device in the VM Settings. This allows the physical camera (USB or built-in PCIe FaceTime HD) to be shared by the host and the VM at the same time.

    Currently there is no option in the VM Settings to un-hide USB cameras for passthrough to the VM, but it can be done with a preference.

    Edit the file ~/Library/Preferences/VMware\ Fusion/preferences and add the following line:

    vusbcamera.passthrough = "TRUE"

    Try like this

    Connect-VIServer$server

    # Gets the list of all VMs in a specific folder

    $vms=Get-datacenter-Name"DATACENTER"|Get-VM|

        where {$_.Name -ne"vcenter01"-and$_.PowerState -eq"PoweredOn"}

    # Shuts down the VMs in the datacenter that are in a powered on state.

    Foreach ($vmin$vms){

      if($vm.ExtensionData.Config.Tools.ToolsVersion -ne"0"){

      #gracefully shutdown

        Shutdown-VMGuest-VM$vm-Confirm:$false

        sleep-Seconds60

      }

      else{

      #forcefully stopping VM

          Stop-VM-VM$vm-Confirm:$false

      }

    }

    sleep-seconds60

    Shutdown-VMGuest-VMvcenter01-Confirm:$false

    It looks as if more than 1 object is returned for the Get-Datastore.

    Try like this perhaps

    $ds=Get-Datastore-Name"Volume05"|Select-First1

    $dsscsi=Get-ScsiLun-Datastore$ds|Select-First1

    $dscanonical=$dsscsi.CanonicalName

    $esx=Get-View$ds.ExtensionData.Host[0].Key

    $storSys=Get-View$esx.ConfigManager.StorageSystem

    $dsSys=Get-View$esx.ConfigManager.DatastoreSystem

    $vmfsPath=$ds.ExtensionData.Host[0].MountInfo.Path

    $storSys.RescanAllHba()

    $extent=$dsSys.QueryVmfsDatastoreExpandOptions($ds.ExtensionData.MoRef)

    $spec=New-ObjectVMware.Vim.HostScsiDiskPartition

    $spec.diskName =$dscanonical

    $spec.partition ="1"

    if($extent.Count -ne0){

       $storsys.ExpandVmfsExtent($vmfspath,$spec

    }
