Re: Budgeting for 10gbps for 2014

Hello,

I see no reason why your approach will not work but I assume you will be installing 2 10Gb cards for redundancy inside each server?  Storage needs the bandwidth but vMotion does not. One thing to be aware of is that if the vMotion network is not segregated from all other systems (ie. anything non-ESX that may also be using the 10G network, then it could be an attack point. You can use VLANs of course, but the plumbing is still all the same, so ensure you have good security for your 10G network and seriously limit access to just ESX(i) hosts. If you cannot, then you may want to consider leaving vMotion on a 1G link.

Just some other thoughts for you.
